My Teaching Philosophy

My teaching philosophy is very much informed with the current theories of Alberta Education’s Inspiring Education Framework for Student Learning. I believe it is important to provide students with the tools to be Engaged Thinkers, Ethical Citizens, and to have Entrepreneurial Spirit. I believe that recognizing biases and thinking critically are amongst the most important aspects students can gain from education. With skewed media, social media, and peer pressure seemingly being at all time highs, it is important for students to be analytical. Giving students more tools that they can use not only in the classroom, but also throughout their future, will never do more harm then good.

I believe it is extremely important to connect with children and provide a safe learning environment in every class setting. I plan on catering my classroom not only to the athlete, but to the everyday student. Whether it's rock climbing, walking, or running a marathon, I would like to inspire the student to be physically active. Providing a foundation of skills in which can be transferred to everyday life is essential in developing an active and healthy lifestyle at every point in life. The Canadian Sport for Life Long-Term Athlete Development Plan is a Theory that I believe to benefit any students of any athletic ability with the ultimate goal of shaping them to be “Active for Life”. Whether I am in the classroom or in the Gym, I believe it's important to implement Daily Physical Activity.

Providing a safe learning environment where students feel free to express themselves without judgement is amongst my biggest priority. In order to achieve this, I believe that it is a must to create pedagogical relationships with students. These relationships will provide the basis in creating a safe learning environment in every classroom. By allowing this, I believe I am facilitating an environment where students can experiment with which learning style best suits their education and will help them be successful in whatever they choose to do in life.
